| Verona | Verona train station to Opera Posted: Sat June 7, 2008 07:39 PM UTC
Hi:
(1) how to I get from the Verona train station to the Verona Opera House. Short Walk? or do I need a taxi or other form of transport to get there? I will be travelling by train from Venice on June 20th around 8pm to see the Aida opera so time may be of essence as I would need to collect my ticket beforehand (booked online). (2) Incidentally, do trains tend to be booked up from Venice to Verona when the opera is on or can I just wait on the day and buy the ticket rather than booking that online. Thanks for your tips so far - great help in planning this part of my tour. |

1) It's not at an opera house, it's at the Arena di Verona! This tells you what bus to take from the station to the arena: http://www.arena.it/en-US/information/tourist.html?idblock=96
2) You can't book a seat on the train anyway, your train ticket is like a bus ticket: whether you buy it on the day or beforehand, if there happen to be no seats left on the particular train you catch, you would have to stand - although I doubt that you will need to.

Unless it's a reservation-only train (which it won't be) you don't need to book or buy a ticket in advance. As noted above, you just stand if no seats are available. It's the same in all the European countries I've visited.

Ciao a tutti!
1)If not bus (that around 8 pm probably are starting to be less frequent) it's 15-20 minutes of easy walk... Look on google earth or maps or any other map system. Once out of the station, go right for a while, leave the ancient Porta Nuova (that gives names to the station, but part of the venetian-austrin fortifications) on the right, enter Corso Porta Nuova (again).... Pass just in front of my office (ok, this doesn't matter) and walking north up to the other sides, after passing the arches called "Portoni della Brà" you will literally stumble into the arena. The ticket office in on the other side, where the houses are close to the ancient roman amphitheater. 2) I don't think there are so many people coming from Venice to the opera... with no train back till next day... :-( Enjoy the Aida, this year with the original edition that started the opera in arena back in 1913. Francesco

we will be seeing tosca on the 21st of june - i think booking in advance is preferable - the train staton - porta nuova -is an easy get to city center where verona di arena is - great atmosphere and the 20th is the kickoff of opera season - buona fortuna

when get off of the train, go up the stairs and to your right is a tabacchi shop - purchase a bus ticket and go out the front door and you will see the busses - they will be marked and you can take it to the city center - it is easily done and will be about a 5 minute ride
