I know that you can get the Bavaria group ticket as part of the journey to Salzburg from Munich but i assume you must change trains/get a new ticket towards the end of the journey!? Can anyone tell me if this is the case?

Salzburg Hauptbahnhof is divided into a german/bavarian part and an austrian part ! That way your Bayern-ticket and similar tickets for Bavaria or Germany are valid till Salzburg Hauptbahnhof !

Hi Rebecca

No, you can go straight to Salzburg. Just remember that there are several trains that go during the day and the faster service (IC and EC trains) command a premium price as they only take about one and a half hours. The slower trains (Regionalbahns) take over two hours as they have multiple stops but the good thing is you can get on at Munich Ost (East) which has a good connection to the Airport! The IC train also stops at Munich Ost.

I'm not sure whether you can use your Bavaria ticket on the fast train but check. Also, if travelling during peak times, make sure you reserve a seat (fee will apply).

Check out the timetables at: http://www.bahn.de/international/view/en/index.shtml

Have a nice time in Salzburg.

John

The Bavaria ticket is valid on the regional trains (RE,RB), not the fast ones.On the regional trains you cannot reserve seats.
