San Francisco Budget hotels

Has anyone stayed at the Cartwright or Alisa Hotel. I would like accomodation for $30-60 U.S. I don't mind sharing a bathroom, but would like my own room. The Alisa has a week rate of $310, and the Cartwright has a room with private bath at a rate, including breakfast for $69.00 Would these hotels be decent places? They are in Union square....I hope not to close to the Tenderloin. Seems that hotel prices have come down some and it is best to contact the hotels direct.

Friends of mine have stayed at the Cartwright and said that it was just fine.
