| Amsterdam | Schiphol to Amstel Station Posted: Sat June 7, 2008 05:24 PM UTC
I will be arriving at Schiphol Airport on Wednesday, 18 June at 11:00. My Eurolines bus to Hamburg leaves at 15.45. I believe the departure station is at Amstel Station. The departure and arrival addresses are not mentioned on the itinerary.
What is the best way to get fom the airport to the bus station; public transportation only? Also, very important, are there baggage storage facilities at Amstel station? What about Central Station? Would appreciate any suggestions. |

Part, at least, of this quesiton was asked recently, so look in the Amsterdam Forum. As I remember, the conclusion was that there are no baggage facilities at Amstel Station, only at Centraal. And someone also gave succienct directions to get to Amstel Station from Centraal, after taking the train from Schipol.

There are 2 possibilities to get from Schiphol to Amsterdam Amstel.
It takes 24-32 mins. depending on the connection. There is always one changeover. www.9292ov.nl for all public transportation schedules. You will need translation. You can find a translation here: http://members.virtualtourist.com/vt/tfr/1/312/9/1aa687/ Schedule 1 (about 24 minutes): train from Schiphol to station RAI. Then tram 51 to station Amstel Schedule 2 (about 32 minutes): train from Schiphol to Central Station then train to Amstel station. Both schedules are a few times per hour.

I would go for the all train travel option with the changeover at the Central Station. If you have time enough you could store your luggage at the Central Station and take a small walk downtown and back.

There is a company that has canal-boat tours in front of Central Station: www.lovers.nl
A nice way to see something of Amsterdam from the water. Cheers Dennis
