So I'll be visiting Aviano area soon anyone have any helpful hints for me? I heard Italy is a beautiful country.

Sorry, I've not been to Aviano (not being military), but I imagine it is lovely country. Venice is something like 30 miles to the south. Trieste is somewhat farther to the east. You are not terribly far from places Padova (Padua) and Verona - or, really, the whole eastern end of the Po River Valley. Or, if you prefer, go north to Innsbruck in Austria.
Try the Search function in VT for "Aviano". Bill
