Amsterdam overnight at amsterdam airport or train station???
Posted: Fri June 6, 2008 12:42 AM UTC
harlo guys,

I am a girl from Germany and I need to fetch my friend at schipol airport as early as 6am... He will be reaching the airport at 6am.

so, I will have to go to amsterdam a night before so that I can be on time to fetch him. I plan to depart from Germany at 8pm by ICE and I will reach amsterdam train station at 10pm.

Does anyone has any idea for me to spend my night? is it better to spend my time at the train station or airport? any 24 hours comfortable coffee shop nearby?

regards,
keehwee

From where are you starting your trip in Germany? There are trains coming in to Schiphol all night long from places like Eindhoven. Perhaps you can ride the trains overnight and get to the airport before 6 a.m.? Or is that not your idea of a nice way to spend the night? ;-)

If you want to sleep at the airport, try this: www.sleepinginairports.com

Hello,

Schiphol Airport will be more comfortable than the train station: www.schiphol.nl

Trains go regularly from the train station to Schiphol: www.ns.nl, so you could spend some time in Amsterdam to kill some time and travel to the airport later.

Cheers

The Schiphol Airport had a rule to be open at night for passengers only.
This was done because a number of homeless people staying at the airport became a problem.
According to the www.schiphol.nl website the Schiphol Plaza (shops) is open from 7AM to 10PM.

My recommondation is to look for a cheap place to stay at downtown Amsterdam (maybe a hostel like the Flying Pig) and take an early train to the Airport (20 minutes travel time).

Cheapest hotel around the Airport is ETAP; see my Schiphol page.

I am taking the ICE from Duisburg, Germany. there is no night train from here to amsterdam, its only bout 2hours ride. and the earliest ride from here to amsterdam starts at 10am if not mistaken. so im definitely need to spend a night at amsterdam.

Why not take the 10:00 A.M. train to Amsterdam and arrive at 12:00. Your friend could wait for you in Amsterdam, meet him for lunch and take the train to Germany. Wouldn't it be a better idea for him to wait for you for a few hours, while exploring the city, then for you to be all alone in a train station all night?
