| Chicago | Most Interesting and LOCAL places for a drink Posted: Thu June 5, 2008 06:35 PM UTC
Hey y'all,
A couple friends and I are spending this weekend in Chicago and we are going to catch a Twins/Sox game and stay downtown. I have been to Chicago numerous times and I guess I'm looking for something off the beaten path. Preference is for anyplace that's local, not a club, doesn't have alot of fake people... and that has some character. A place near the ballpark wouldn't be terrible. Seems like every city has a few of these "original" places that I can't find on any website...and only the locals go there.. Help me find them :) Lucien |

the only place that i've ever been to near comiskey is Jimbo's.On princeton off 35th I think...pretty local. The people are a bit raw, nothing like Wrigleyville, but it has cheap beer and whiskey shots. Also there's a pretty good deep dish place right down the block.
If you're looking for a cool area away from the downtown/wrigleyville area try Lincoln square. Off the brown line. A lot of fun German places with awesome German/Belgian beers.....

Try searching on yelp.com, reviews are written mostly by locals although if there's a place they don't want you to know about so they can still get into it, I doubt they would post there or anyplace else. You can narrow the search by neighborhood, Bridgeport for Sox park.

I'd recommend getting back into the city and far away from where the Sox play. Head back into the city and take the 'El' and get off at Fullerton or Armitage where Lincoln Park is located, or head up to Wrigley at the Addison stop where Wrigleyville is.
There are too many bars to name where friendly locals hang out - jeans/nice shirt type pubs rather than the club scene... Enjoy!
