The Naples staion is Napoli Centrale.

The Ramada hotel is right by Napoli Centrale.

had a location map and reviews etc.

The hotel looks fine, and Naples is safe enough (although grubby and chaotic/vibrant) if you use good city common sense, especially in the evenings.

The areas around most European stations are always less salubrious than other parts of the town/city; they draw those who are poorest, those who have problems, those who are looking for quick and easy pickings from disorientated travellers. It would be best not to plan on very late nights and/or wandering back to the hotel in the early hours, imo.....but I wouldn't want to do that in many other European cities.

For what it's worth, the train station area is infinitely better now than it was when I first visited Naples in 1989.

As for Naples being dangerous, for some reason people love to overdramatize that, especially Italians who have never been there. A Sienese shopkeeper once said to me "In Naples they'll steal your HAIR!" Nonsense. If you act sensibly and protect yourself from pickpockets and scammers you'll be fine.

Entirely agree.

The same over-dramatisation occurs with the rubbish problem.

Go. Be sensible. Enjoy. Just don't expect everywhere to be like home, be open to new ideas/culture/behaviours and you'll have an excellent trip.

do you plan to visit Naples because you want to use
it as a launching pad? If so, I would not recommend
that you stay there. I agree with other VT'ers that
Sorrento is not only a more pleasant place, but it's
just as close to the sights you want to see. while
I've never been IN Naples, I've had to take ferries
out of Molo Bevello, and it reminded me of Times
Squares in the 70's.

Well of course a ferry terminal is going to be a mess.

My concern would be more that if you stay near the station (Termini is in Rome, btw), which is shabby and a bit depressing rather than out-and-out dangerous, you are some way away from anything you might want to see and do in Naples.
I would suggest staying nearer to the Maschio Angioino/Piazza del Municipio (airport bus terminus), e.g. Jolly Hotel Napoli or the Marriott Renaissance Mediterraneo.
Have a sfogliatelle for me at Gambrinus!
