| New York State | Nice motels in the Albany-Amsterdam, NY area Posted: Thu June 5, 2008 12:50 PM UTC
We need to stay overnight somewhere halfway on our way from Acadia N.P. in Maine to the Niagara Falls. I've googled lots of places but there are so many horror reviews and even more confusingly mixed horror and gung-ho reviews that I do not know any more what to believe.
Could anyone please recommend a clean and inexpensive motel somewhere in the area along the Interstate Route 80 please? Many thanks in advance! |

For starters, from Maine to Niagara you had better not be on I80. Check your map. I believe the number is I90 without checking but most everyone calls it the New York Thruway.
There are two very nice places to stop more or less midway on your trip. The first and probably a little too early in the day for you is Exit 2 of the Massachusetts Turnpike at Lee. Nearby lovely villages include Lenox and Sturbridge which are fairly expensive but with several chain motels right near the exit. Second is about 15-20 miles north of Albany on the Northway, I87?, in Saratoga, which is another great village.

Your are so right it IS I90, not I80. Saratoga sounds nice, the spas and all, even if we won't have the time to enjoy those. Thanks a lot for your tips!

BTW, any tips on particular motels in the Saratoga area pelase? I'm confronted with the same predicament of wading through VERY mixed reviews for each motel/B&B I google.
Thanks a lot in advance!

we have never stayed overnight in Saratoga, usually just stopping for a few hours on our way north usually to Vermont. BTW - make sure your visit does not coincide with the short horse racing season when everything is fully booked and exceedingly costly.
