| Hanoi | Hanoi airport late night arrival Posted: Thu June 5, 2008 11:28 AM UTC
I will arrive around midnight in Hanoi from a business trip to China.
Is there still public transportation availble? Or do I have to pay the normal 100 Dollar taxi drive to downtown? Plan one week beaches in Halong Bay or are the better beaches in Vietnam? Thanks |

If you pay US$100, then something is very badly wrong!
I was last there just over a year ago and the rate for a taxi...... pre-agreed, is more like $10........... though the taxi drivers will try every trick in the book to up this rate, my advice is to write what you WILL pay on a piece of paper, so have a pen and paper,..... the taxi guy wont! Not sure what the public transport options are at that time, but if you have a problem, let me know and I can enquire from a mate who lives in Hanoi and has done for over 10 years. Happy travels.

I am not sure where you got the 100 usd fare, i have taken the taxi on numerous occasions and it is always between 10 and 15 usd. get a taxi and agree on a price and get to the town fast.. i dont think the bus which runs to the centre of town runs late at night, during the day it is an alternative but it leaves you near the Viet air offices and you have to still take a taxi to your hotel..

Taxis will be there at US$12, I think the airport bus is also running.
Beaches in Ha Long, there aren't really any, few small ones on some of the islands but think you would get a little bored. The best beaches are central and southern Vietnam (Phu Quoc probably topping the lot) Jonny

It takes about 2 hours from landing time to arrival to your hotel.
You have 4 choices to transfer from airport to Hanoi central: • Easy way is by taxi (VND 250,000 or about $15): please be very quick to call a taxi once you finished passport control procedures & get your luggage if your flight arrived so late. Some bad taxi driver may tell that "Your hotel is full tonight" then take you to other bad hotel to get commission, so please ask the driver take you to exactly address of your hotel. • Cheap way is by 15-seat mini bus of Vietnam Airlines ($2/person) to Vietnam Airlines Head Office at No. 1 Quang Trung Street, then walk to your hotel. • Cheapest way is by public bus (no luggage & before 21:00 only): first you get bus No. 7 (yellow & red color) VND 5,000 from Noi Bai airport to Cau Giay, then change into bus No. 9 (VND 3,000) from Cau Giay to Bo Ho (Hoan Kiem lake in Hanoi central), then walk to your hotel. The total costs for both bus trips would be VND 8,000 (or 50 US cents). • Some hotel offer free airport pickup service if you stay more than three night. In fact, they included pickup charge to your room charge.
