| Skagway | Train or Yukon? Posted: Thu June 5, 2008 03:07 AM UTC
My husband and I are trying to decide between two tours, and I was hoping for some advice as to which one those of you "in the know" you think we should take.
Choice 1: We would take the White Pass Scenic Railway, go to a suspension bridge, and have a salmon bake Choice 2: We would hike into the Yukon (Tormented Valley, Carcross) and then go do the suspension bridge. Which one do you think we should take? I'm torn! |

Hi - we just rented a car and did the drive ourselves. We went out to Carcross and then Emerald Lake. We also stopped at the suspension bridge. Driving gave us the freedom to stop where we wanted and go at our own pace. Can't tell you about the train since we haven't done it but everyone seems to enjoy it. It doesn't go very far though - I think a lot of the trip is done by bus. Any way you go, the scenery is great. Happy Travels!

The train ride is awsome. Took it in early May, so the snow was still heavy. The views and the sounds were great. Also the Salmon Bakes are really top notch dining. The locals use Alderwood for the coals and it leaves a delicious smoke flavor on the fish. My wife and I took a river raft ride in Haines and had the Salmon Bake afterwards. Great town as well in Skagway. I have pics about the train and town on my Skagway pages.
