Any good suggestions for day trips in a car (for one or two days) outside of Nantes? We like anything -- rural and walking once we get there is always nice though. We would be there in March '09

I would surely travel to Britanny, at least to Lorient/the menhirs of Carnac/Quiberon/Belle Ile, north to St. Malo and Mont St. Michel, south to La Rochelle/Ile de Ré, and to the east surely to one or more castles of the Loire.

Vannes bay/Morbihan Gulf (exceptional, lots of superb islands, lots of walks)
or/and Lac de Guerlédan (central Brittany on the Nantes-Brest canal, water sports, forests, gorges, etc. top walking area) http://www.tourisme-vannes.com/ http://otguerledan2.chez-alice.fr/ You could easily visit both over 2 days.
