| Valencia | August in Valencia? Posted: Wed June 4, 2008 09:31 PM UTC
This summer,I'm thinking to go on holiday to Valencia with my friends (22 years old;last year in Barcelona)...how is the city in this period??Is it lively or is it empty and all is closed?
How are the beaches and the sea? How is the nghtlife?Disco,bars,disco-bar,etc... Thanks! |

the city in summer is empty with locals and full with tourists. restaurants, pubs, many shops etc remain open so you won't have problems with that. beaches are crowded. the city has its own beaches but real nice beaches are outside the city. for instance, you can take a bus near the train station that'd take you to 'el perellonet' or a train to 'gandia' or 'cullera'. those are villages with much nicer beaches. gandia is a bit further away (maybe 1h from valencia), but the train trip to cullera or others could take around 30-40 mins.
as for nightlife, almost everyone goes to pubs and terraces that are open only in the summer near the beach area of the city. Aquarela is the name of one of these terraces that's always crowded with people. There are some other partying areas in the city center (area El carmen, area Canovas, area Blasco Ibaņez) but those are a bit empty in summer as people prefer terraces.

Thanks for your infos....I'm 22,so I look for sea and entertainment and many youngs people (but I'm happy too if I can visit a nice city!).
I know that,in August,Spanish people (and Italians too) leave on holiday...but,for example,in August,Barcelona is full of people from all over the world, all is open night and day,it's a fantastic city!I'd want to understand if Valencia is similar (not the same I imagine...Barca is more famous and touristic than Valencia). I also live in a city on the sea,Bari (certainly less touristic than Valencia),that is empty in August and most is closed...I don't want to find a similar situation!

you wont, dont worry. only smaller, familiar, shops are closed. most restaurants are open as it is tourist season, and so are the shops and big stores. C/Colon is the big shopping street here and i believe none of the shops there are closed in august. as for nightlife, pubs and clubs you'll find even more places open in summer than in the winter, especially by the beach, as i said. i would go partying there, as thats where most of the young ppl go. the city is quiter in august than the rest of the year, meaning less traffic, less noise, less ppl rushing to get to work, etc...but you will not get bored. valencia is smaller than barcelona but we have a lot of tourists that are probably looking for the same things as you :)
hope you enjoy valencia
