My husband and I are going to Greece for our honeymoon and we heard that Paleos has great beaches. We dont know how to get there from Athens. Could you please help us? What is better? To take the bus? Taxi? or rent a car?

If you want to go to Fáliros beach ( between Athens and Piraeus) just take the new tram direction Piraeus !!! Cheap and no problem with trafficjam !!

Faliro is one of the dirtiest beaches around Athens and it should not be wise for someone to swim there! Too dangerous for your health!

Once upon a time (and we are talking about a century ago), Faliro used to be a beautiful beach! Once upon a time!

I think she made one word from the name Paleó Fáliro..........
When you take the tram from Syntagmasquare/ Amalias avenue, you go straight down to the sea.If you go south, you will end up in Glyfada, when you go north the tram will take you to Néo Fáliro, near Piraeus. I would not reccomend this beach but at Paleó Fáliro ( where the tram meets the boulevard) there are a lot of nice beaches where people also swim in wintertime !!!

At Least Constandinos lives in Athens and has taken time to share his photos and tips with the rest of VT. He has a very nice photo of himself to show people who he is. I have met Constandinos and I happen to know that he is a very intelligent and conscientious person. Whether he understood what 'Paleos' meant, I must take his side and say that his answer was helpful and not in anyway meant to be negative. Whether either of you or I could understand what the question was, is irrelevant as far as the answer given by Constandinos. I would also agree with Constandinos' advice not to swim in the Faliron area. Of course, many people do swim there, but that is not to say that there is the best place in Attiki to swim! I have lived in Athens for 30 years and not even once was I ever drawn to or attracted to the beach anywhere near Faliron. It is between to the marina in Kalamaki and the huge commercial marina of Pireaus. There is no way that you could convince me that the sea there is pollution free. Also this beach lies on the north side of the open sea. When the winds blow from the south, all the garbage is blown up onto the beaches there. By the way, when was the last time you swam in Faliro Maria?


As for the intent of the original question, I would say that it certainly needs further clarification.

I fail to understand your "aggressive" and "unpolite" answer to me!I am a "real" Athenian and I know my city better than any one else!I speak a lot of languages and I have a lot of experience by socializing with foreign people and most of the times I can guess what they mean!

If a couple comes to Greece to spend an unforgettable honeymoon, I suppose you should suggest/offer them the best in beaches that Greece can offer, not the worst! And Faliro-neutral, to Faliro- (and not "Faliros", as you write by ignorance), does not fit to that holiday package!

The question still is "how to get from Athens to Paleros?"
You write about waterquality, i write about ways to go to the beach.
As we still don't know what she wants, we still don't know what to answer.
I know that beaches at P. Faliro are frequented by Athenians in summer and winter. So i wrote here how to come there by tram.
If Insularius writes under my messages : "she certainly does not mean Faliro"
