Southern Thailand Weather question: What's wrong with the Thai cloudy skies??
Posted: Wed June 4, 2008 04:12 PM UTC
What is wrong with the weather? Am I wrong or is Thailand particularly prone to cloudy skies, even despite the fact I may be super-hot?? I went in August (OK, that is rainy season) and it was like that, my friend went in March (supposedly high/dry season) and sky on his photos looks cloudy and grey..Now I am looking at this website for historic weather in January'2008 http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/VTSG/2008/1/4/DailyHistory.html?req_city=NA&req_state=NA&req_statename=NA and I see "mostly cloudy" every day, 2 weeks in a row!!

Is there no good time in Thailand for guaranteed sunshine?

I have been going to Thailand every Janaury since 1990 (and I booked to return again in 2009!) and although you do get some clouds you get a lot more sunshine. The amount of cloud can depend on where you are but it really has not been a problem for me. The summaries on many travel site are way to general, a few clouds over a 24 hour period and they say the day is cloudy. On Phuket there are often clouds over the centre of the islands but not so many over the beaches.

I think if you go anytime between December and March you'll be OK.

Who cares, it's Thailand! It could snow and it would still be great!
OK, seriously, as John said, there are more sunny days than cloudy, for sure. Even on cloudy days you can still get a good tan and burn. Weather has definitly changed over the years in Thailand. But as always, almost any time of the year you could get some rain and definitly coudly skies. Best months are November through April, April being the HOTTEST and the driest.

Good luck
