Manchester hotel needed...
Posted: Wed June 4, 2008 05:44 AM UTC
I'm looking for a hotel in the greater Manchester area for 1 night next month.

I arrive at the airport in the afternoon, and have to be at Haydock Park (off the M6) in the evening. Next day I have to be in Bradford and then travel back to Manchester airport.

I'll have a rented car and the obvious solution is a place close to the M6 or M62.

Important is that its clean & quiet. Don't mind a budget chain, but happy to pay more to be comfortable. Don't fancy an airport hotel or Manchester city centre.

Anyone know what the hotel at Old Trafford cricket ground is like, and if its convenient for the airport + motorway?

There are some good hotels at Salford Quays, close to the Imperial War Museum and Old Trafford football stadium. The area is quiet in the evening but there are a couple of decent restaurants (in addition to the hotel restaurants).

Tafford Lodge (Cricket Ground) looks ok from the cricket ground and as long as there isn't a game on the day you need you should get a romm ok

it seemed to take us about 10mins to get onto the motorway from the cricket ground( but that was in traffic leaving the game)

manchester airport isn't too far away - if i remember rightly

have you thought about a hotel close to Haydock Park? - The Haydock Thistle is an example. 90 minutes to Bradford from here

It depends what you want for the evening as to where best to stay of course but two choices worth considering - Novotel just off junction 13 of the M60 is enroute with a decent pub close by - The John Gilbert or Travel Inn/Lodge at the junction for Heywood/Prestwich junction 18 I think. Allow one hour along the M62 to get to Bradford from j13, around 45 minutes from J18. There is also a travel inn close to M62 J10 of M62, Warrington if you don't want to travel too far from Haydock.

Old Trafford cricket ground is ok but a bit out of your way unless you want to get into the city centre for the evening as it is close to the tram stop. I would say the same about the Salford Quays hotels, good but a diversion not worth taking. Hope this helps

Thanks all; I'll have a few hours free in the morning before I go to Bradford, and as I haven't been to Manchester for 10+ years I thought I'd have a quick look round.

However I value my peace & quiet in a hotel, and don't want to be in the centre.

to answer your need for a morning look around. I think the old trafford one would be fine - it is easy to get the tram into city centre and close enough to the motorway for an exit to the M60&62. It is much quicker getting a tram from old trafford to city centre than salford quays. However, if you want to drive in and pay the ever increasing car park charges then either quays or old trafford will do.

thanks all; I've booked the Old Trafford Lodge;

nice to try something different once in a while;

plus all the chain hotels between the airport and Haydock were booked up already;
