Please use this post to post anything you know about the new Resort: The Grand Mauritius Resort and Spa.

I hear it opened on June 1st. I have a reservation there next year and am very excited.

What is the beach like?
Is the water rough?
Is there good snorkeling off the beach?
How is the area where it is located?

The new resort is between Port Louis and Grand Bay, about 15 km from each so very central for activities or sightseeing. Generallly beaches are good and the water is usually calm and flat, beaches protected by reefs running just off the coast. being part of the Starwood group the resort should be very good if this one is like some of the others I have seen personally.

We went there for our honeymoon on the 6th of aug till the 17th. The hotel is excellent, has very nice rooms and an impressive lobby. We were in a junior suite with an ocean view. Very nicely decorated and very luxury.

The hotel has 2 swimming pools a smaal one and the big one next to the excellent italian restaurant. It has a whole area with jet streams...

Regarding the beach, the sand is a bit hard and not pleasant to walk on with your bare feet. The water is farely rougher then on other places because of its location in the bay. Slightly bigger waves, so if you want to waterski you have to go a bit further away in the ocean.

The 2 restaurants are enormous and very nice to eat in. even the breakfast is à la carte and in different courses. The only downside is the high wine prices. On average a bottle of wine will cost you 100-200€. there is even a bottle on it for 3800€...

Overall you will have a good time. Since the hotel just opened there were hardly any rooms occupied, i think just 15 so we had the whole swimming pool, spa, restaurant, waterski,... for ourselves :)
