| Jersey | Jersey over Christmas Posted: Tue June 3, 2008 08:28 PM UTC
Hi there,
We are planning to spend the long Christmas weekend (24 to 28 December) on the island of Jersey. We have been to the Channel Islands before, but never during this time of the year, so we were just wondering a couple of things: First, will everything close down on Christmas and Boxing Day? (We will be based on St Helier and we are mostly concerned about restaurants and public transport) Also, is it possible to take a day trip from Jersey to Guernsey by boat? (We were thinking of doing this either on Boxing Day or Saturday 27) Thank you all |

hmmm... jersey has its students back at this time and the huge uk, irish and polish residents tend to head home, so you'll find loads of students partying in the pubs and clubs... another thing is that most of the tourist places have shut down for winter or holidays.. public transport is a joke in the winter, but it does go places.. guernsey for a day trip is only possible by air at this time of year, and don't go on a thursday... regards jase

Hi
No public transport on xmas/boxing day - gonna have to hire a car or get taxis. Restaurants shut Xmas day, but should be plenty open on boxing day. I wouldn't imagine that ferries run on boxing day here, but i don't know for sure. The 27th would be your best bet - you can also fly to Guernsey in 20 minutes for about £65.
