Hi, we are going to the Cancun area next week and wonder what is most fun and cheap for two teens 15 and 19 to do. We are staying on isla de las Mujeres in a timeshare and will have to take the ferry to and fro Cancun. Is that expensive? Thanks for any tips. J.

We've crossed over to Isla Mujeres a couple times for day trips and really enjoy the island. It's very laid back. Relaxing seems to be the main activity. Your teens may want to rent a golf cart for the day and explore the island. Otherwise you will have to take the ferry boat back and forth to the mainland, then take the city bus into Cancun areas.

It has been many years since I visited, but I still remember as a teen joining with a bunch of folks to go on a little boat trip for snorkling the clear protected waters near the island. On the way to the snorkling place the boatman caught a large fish. With a little encouragement he agreed to help us eat it at a evening roasting on the beach.

a ferry from Isla Mujeres to Cancun (to Puerto Juares) costs $35 per person (apr. $3) one way. the ferry leaves every 30 min. staring from 6 am (if I remember correctly).
