| Easter Island | Is there a option to get to Rapa Nui by boat? How about Pitcairn Island? Posted: Tue June 3, 2008 03:57 AM UTC
The answer may be more adventurous or time consuming than I can deal with, but what the heck... Is there some option to get there by supply boat? The reason I ask is I understand that's how you get to Pitcairn Island. Which brings up the question, does anyone combine Rapa Nui trip with Pitcairn Island, or is that just too much time out of the office :)
Airfare from SF is $6300 USD economy class p/p. ouch. |

It would be a long way to Easter Island on a boat. Have you priced the airfares in two parts? Try LAN's website since they are the only ones providing air service to EI and price a RT SFO-SCL and then SCL-IPC. I just checked and business class on LAN in October is under $1400 RT SCL-IPC. The coach fare is under $800 RT.

Last I heard, there was no scheduled service to Pitcairn Island. There was a yacht that took people there for a very high price as Pitcairn does not have a safe harbour to land all the time. But that was 10 years ago. There also WAS a Norwegian Tanker that stops and passage might be arranged with them, But we are talking months for waiting for a return passage. Pitcairn was isolated and I believe they still are. But Easter is there for a price.

You might want to read the posting at Wikipedia some good information on how to travel to Pitcairn, the requirements for visiting and how much it might cost.

Easter Island does not have a harbour. The only scheduled boat services are reserved for inhabitants of the island. There is the occasional cruise ship that calls there.
