New Mexico Which trail(s) at Chaco?
Posted: Mon June 2, 2008 11:01 PM UTC
We're making a return trip to Chaco (were there 9 years ago) to re-visit some of the sites we saw before and hike at least one of the longer trails. We only have one day - will be coming from, and returning to, Santa Fe. Anyway, there are 4 permit-required trails (Pueblo Alto Loop, Casa Chiquita, Peņasco Blanco and Wijiji) and we probably will only have time to do one of them. I'm interested in hearing from any of you who've hiked them which one would be your top pick? I'm leaning heavily towards Pueblo Alto Loop but hey, I'm open to suggestions!

I haven't hiked the trails but have been to Chaco several times. I agree that Pueblo Alto Loop is probably your best bet and the one I would choose for myself. My second choice would be Casa Chiquita going far enough to see the petroglyphs.
