Hi, can someone help me with what type of clothing we will need for visiting in July?

Something warm! It is winter, with temperatures down to below 10°C. However, normally it is rather sunny with very little rain.

I always get caught out by Sydney weather in that I don't dress warmly enough. You can always take layers off if you get too warm. Not sure about very little rain. Every time I am in Sydney it does rain and quite heavily. Pack an umbrella if you can fit it in.

Hello Phippo. Predicting weather would be one of the hardest things that any traveller has to do so I would check out a weather site i.e. http://www.weather.com.au/nsw/sydney come closer to your time of travel to get the best idea. If you check todays weather you will see that it is generally getting cooler and July will be more so. As others have said it will be cool overnight and early mornings but sometimes you will get the nice sunny mid day - I wouldn't expect to do any swimming unless you are an iceberger. I would take layers and peel off and on as required.
Carole.

I agree with Carole, there's a range of weather you could experience. You'll rarely get 'average' weather, it's always above or below. Depending of where you're from you could freeze, or it could be quite warm, or even some of each. I remember one time (around July/August) going out in the morning with a shirt and no jumper because it was quite warm. That afternoon they got some snow flurries in the northwestern suburbs, I froze as there was a train breakdown and I was stuck shivering on a railway station for hours.

Poor Heidi! When I am in Sydney it never rains LOL But once I was solid frozen there in December.
Of course, the "very little rain" is only an average of the metservices. I would never go without umbrella, even when travelling in a low rainfall month. In fact, one weather fact is that it does not rain when you carry an umbrella in your bag ;-)

our winter here is probably similar to spring in the UK!!
you'll need a jacket for the cool/cold mornings and evenings. as mentioned, dress in layers so that you can take things off as it gets warmer in the daytime. it is raining and cool today so a jacket was needed in the morning. long sleeved t-shirts and jumpers are useful.

As June said, Sydney winter is like English spring so you may not feel the cold as we do. It could be sunny and warm or cold and wet so layers, as others have suggested, is the answer. This year has been record rainfall so something waterproof, or at least an umbrella, would be a good idea.

Sissi,
Next time you decide to go to Sydney, can I come too? Obviously you are a sun magnet! LOL. I once aqua-planed all the way from Town Hall Station to Darling Harbour. There is nothing finer than being out on Sydney Harbour with the sun glistening off the water. However on around 10 trips to Sydney I've probably only experienced lovely weather twice. Top city though. Heidi

Sure, Heidi - I will keep you posted about my next Sydney visit.
But remember: Once I needed an anorak and gloves at the start of December. I keep only the rain from falling ;-)

Wet, Wet, Wet. I'm going to Sydney next week. Go figure! My best advise ever. Never go to Sydney without an umbrella, raincoat and gum boots!
