| Honduras | San Pedro Sula to Roatan with a small dog Posted: Mon June 2, 2008 07:37 PM UTC
Hello,
I'm flying to San Pedro Sula with one other person and a 5.5 pound dog, who will be going as cargo (not allowed as carry-on with American Airlines). Our flight is due to land at 6:25pm. I have a couple of things to ask about. First, what can I expect to happen with the dog? Of course I'll have her health cert, rabies cert, etc. What will they do with her when she gets off the plane? How long will it all take? I called the Honduran consulate, but the English-speaking person was busy, and my Spanish isn't good enough to ask about all of this in Spanish. Second, I need to get to Roatan as cheaply as possible and without taking forever. (Tall order, I know.) I'm thinking of staying overnight in San Pedro Sula (recommendations?), taking a bus to La Ceiba (recommendations?) in the morning, then taking the ferry to Roatan at 4:30pm. I've heard that they allow animals on the ferry. Is that correct? What about the bus? Would renting a car be a better option? I'm so overwhelmed!! Thanks for your help! |

Your dog has to pass review with Gov. local veterinarian. If not available at the time of arrival, the dog sleeps at the airport. It's best to ask for help with the airline to avail of veterinary upon your arrival.
The chains Hilton and Princess offer the service for pets but are expensive. A b&b (http://www.spanish.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails. You can rent a car in San Pedro Sula or pay a taxi to the ceiba (Av. $ 100.00) If you can take your pet on the ferry. These sites can be helpful http://www.roatan.net/roatan-info.html; http://www.roatanisland.net/transport.htm
