Amsterdam "Nice" restaurants in Amsterdam
Posted: Mon June 2, 2008 12:18 PM UTC
Hi guys

Can anyone suggest a nice place to eat in Amsterdam? Me and my bf are going for a short break next week and would like to go somewhere thats nice, not posh and overpriced nice, just somewhere we can make a bit of an effort to dress up at.

Any ideas?

Hi Jen,

You could try the Belgium restaurant Lieve: http://www.restaurantlieve.nl/, you can choose the right ambiance there yourself...

I also like De Fles, but that's not really a place you have to dress up for...

Many very good up-market restaurants can be found in the picturesque village Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, see my page at: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/6117e/6fe6a/

Enjoy,
Dennis

You could try my favorite: Eetkamer van de Jordaan

Just check my Amsterdam restaurant tips.

BTW. I am re-organizing the Amsterdam restaurant tips and I recommend you local for the Dutch ones that are lower in the top list (single tips). I found some nice suggestions there.

is one of those suggestions (if you are not afraid to explore an RLD alley).

I'd recommend a trendy restaurant called Elf (which means 11 in Dutch), which is located close to Centraal Station on the 11th floor of Oosterdokskade. My boyfriend and I love to go here, and it turns into a nightclub later on! It literally has the best views in the entire city, and the atmosphere is casual yet very nice. If you want something a big funky and different, then I'd definitely recommend Elf.

Another great restaurant is Gauchos, located behind the WW2 monument in the Dam Square. It's an Argentinian restaurant, and the atmosphere is very nice. You can get away with wearing jeans, but you could dress up as well and not look out of place. The menu is excellent! You should check out hpals.blogspot.com for more restaurant ideas and tips on Amsterdam, it's a pretty good blog that's starting up where I found ideas on what to do with my boyfriend in the city!

Hope this helps :)
