Parque Nacional do Iguaçu Adventure Boat Ride
Posted: Mon June 2, 2008 06:24 AM UTC
Hello Everyone,

We are planning a trip to Iguassu falls in October, later this year.

We were hoping to do a jet boat ride up to the falls, but heard you can do this from both the Argentine and Brazilian sides. Does anyone know which side is better? I heard that the Argentine side is not as expensive but just as good? I heard the Brazilian side does a video of your ride which you can purchase? Would we need to book this in advance or can I just turn up on the day?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks.

Hello,
I just use Brasilan side and I think 2 side have different beauties. On Brasilan side you can walk near the river by seeing different waterfalls but from other side you can walk on the water at the bridge and you can see the most important part better. I think with boat they all go on the same places. And you can't go very close to big waterfalls. (You will be totaly wet, don't forget!) At 12-2006 it was crowded but we could easily do everything after a bit queue, don't need to reservation. That video doesn't show much and expensive... Have a nice trip, iguacu is great...

Here are some brazilian connections you may use to get some hints in Foz do Iguaçu. I have been in Foz and I don't remember if waters will permit jet ski close to Falls. There are many big rocks around the river-bed. It would be worthwhile to ask to people who lives in Foz if such ride up to Falls is reliable. The use of vest life is essential.

The boats go to Devil's Throat/Garganta de Diabo falls from either side. I did it from the Brazil side, because that's where I was staying and you do get wet and might want to change (and not lug wet stuff all day), but didn't really see much difference. When you arrive, ask your hotel for info about booking. October is still a shoulder season, so I would imagine there aren't hordes of tourists lining up.

It makes no difference as far as the view since both boat rides take you to the same places. The Argentine side also provides a video should you want to purchase it but as the other post stated they are fairly pricey. Do take a rain coat and cap with you, I took my digital camera with me and got some great photos. I just put it in a plastic bag between shots.

The Argentine side was cheaper for me since the exchange rate from US$ to Arg$ was much better than the Reais. I did make a reservation in advance to make sure we had the time we wanted rather than taking the chance we would have to wait around.
Here is a link that explains about the tours available
