| Amman | Amman to Jerusalem Posted: Mon June 2, 2008 12:30 AM UTC
I am seeking information about travel from Amman to Jersualem...What are the hours of operation for the Allenby bridge? How long can I expect the trip to take? How does it work? Take a bus to the bridge, cross with shared taxi? What kind of visa do I need if I am to fly into Amman, stay in West Bank for one month and return to Jordan? Do I need to acquire a multi-entrance visa before I leave (usa)? And about how long does it take to get one? what are border crossings like? Can I expect to be questioned thoroughly regarding my intentions in West bank? I will be doing volunteer work there. Any other info would be so extremely helpful! Thanks!

The bridge is open :
Su-Th 800-1630 Fr&Sa 800-1430 If you re-enter Jordan within the validily of your original visa, you only need a single entry visa. However the normal Jordanian airport on-arrival visa is only valid for a stay of 1 month. I.e. if you are staying for longer (including your stay in the West Bank), you will need a new visa upon re-entry. A double-entry visa may not be advisable, as there may be problems when you re-enter (as you don't have an exit stamp for the first entry on that visa). Ask for details at the Jordanian embassy in Washington on that problem. Alternatively, just get a new visa when you re-enter at any crossing except Allenby bridge, or at the Jordanian consulate in Israel.
