Istanbul peak/ off peak?
Posted: Sun June 1, 2008 10:23 PM UTC
I had to postpone my planned trip in march due to injury :( Longing to go back to istanbul, so I wondered what the city is like in late august or september: how crowded, hot or expensive??

I'd also like to go by train via vienna so interested to hear any views on that!

Thank you! L

I wish you recover soon. I did the same train vagage some 40 years ago. Please visit my Vienna page. Since that time many things changed. But the trip takes 2 days and 2 nights. If you reserve a room at sleeping wagon it will be better and secure for your personal belongings. You will travel along Serbia a night and awhole day. In Serbia the locals are permitted to sit at the same compartment with you.
August is warm. September is the best season in whole Turkey. Istanbul is very crowded have 15 million population. But She is a grand lady. Too grand that every body can contain in her. She is a whore.
Expensive? It depends on your budget. There are millions of Turks living in Istanbul only with a salary 500 Turkish Lira. The first day is expensive. The next day you will discover the cheepest prices.
Have a nice time.

Late August or Sep is the best time.Try to come before 15th SEP cause school starts. Before the schools start Istanbul is more quite then usual (9milion)
after schools it s becoming like a judgement day.(17-18)milion.

www.tcdd.gov.tr for trains you can check.
for the details about Istanbul please check my tips.

I suggest you to check low cost airlines for coming to Istanbul.
