| Izmir Ili | From Izmir to Ephesus Posted: Sun June 1, 2008 10:21 PM UTC
Hi,
I'll be in Istanbul in July, and I managed to book a return flight to Izmir for the day, so that I camn visit Ephesus. My flight arrives at Izmir early in the morning and departs late at night, so I'll have the whole day to find my way from Izmir to Ephesus. My question is, what is the easiest/fastest way to travel between Izmir airport-Izmir-Ephesus, and back? Ideally, I would also like to spend a short time in Izmir, but, if that is too much, Ephesus comes first! Is it true that the train between Izmir airport-Izmir-Selcuk is not running right now because of maintenance work? Are there any buses instead, from Izmir airport to Izmir and then to Ephesus? I'm trying to avoid renting a car! Any help/advice will be greatly appreciated! |

Taxi from ADB would be the fastest mode that will take you from the airport to Izmir city centre. There are buses but not conveniently near the airport, instead you have to walk far to get to the bus stop.
Havas airport bus is also operating, check this link: http://www.havas.com.tr/en/otobus_izmir.asp http://www.adnanmenderesairport.com/izmiren/2.php ...from Izmir to Selcuk (Ephesus), there are minibuses from the huge Izmir Terminali, every 30 minutes. Have fun!

Kalimerhaba Komshu,
It takes 80 kms to Selcuk the main town near Efes from ADB (Adnan Menderes International Airport. It takes other 10 kms to the Roman ruins. There is two possibilities to reach to Efes. one is a our friend JuneB's way. other is: If you dont have baggages just ask a taxi at the main exit of the airport to take you to the main highway to Selcuk-Kusadasi. On the highway you can busstop to Selcuk. It is a custom in Turkey. If you high your hand and wave the bus or minibus called Dolmush stops. But you must ask the driver if they go to Selcuk. Because on the same highway you can have busses to other parts of Turkey. Dont get lost. Return? Do the same. ask the driver that you will drop you at the nearest stop at ADnan Menderes Airport. (write on a paper in Turkish: Adnan Menderes Hava Limanina yakin bir yerde inecegim= I want to drop at a point nearest to Adnan Menderes airport.) Have a nice time. Dont forget to visit Mother Mary.

Thank you for all the information!
Another question for you, sirvictor: How do I get to Mary's house from Ephesus? Is it within walking distance? And is there a separate entrance fee? Evharisto! Chris1275

House of Mother Mary or as we say "Meryem Ana" is on the top of a hill called Bulbul Dagi the Nigtingale Hill. Efes is situated on the foot of the Bulbul Dagi. You need to get there by taxi. or dolmush. I havent been there in the recent years. For that reason I dont know if there is a dolmush to the house. You must ask at Selcuk main bus terminal.
(Meryem Ana'ya gitmek istiyorum. Nasil gidebilirim? Lutfen bana yardimci olunuz.) (I want to go to House of Mother Mary. How can I reach there. Please help me)

Thanks, that's really useful.
I'm actually learning Turkish now, so it will be good practice for me!
