| Amsterdam | Reveive Mail in Netherlands? Posted: Sun June 1, 2008 04:18 PM UTC
Hi everyone!
I love to know if the post office in Amsterdam got any mail box service? I will be in Amsterdam soon. And I will be waiting for a parcel from other country. The place that I live will not accept any postal item. I wonder if the parcel could send to any local post office and I just go to pick it up? Thank you very much! |

Most large cities have 'Poste Restante' services. The mail is addressed to you at a specific postal office "c/o poste restante". You go to the post office with identification to pick it up. Probably the main postal office would be the best.

All I can tell you is that when I went to Australia I had so many papers that I printed out from the internet that I didn't want to carry them with - they weighed more than my suitcase!
I mailed off packets to different destinations, like Sydney, Cairns, Adelaide and so on with the address: [My name] c/o Poste Restante Central Postal office [city name], Australia When I arrived at each destination I asked the desk at the hostel where the central post office was located and how to get there. Went there and picked up my packets. No problems.

According to the website of the Dutch post (http://www.tntpost.nl/) any post office will do.
At the URL below you can find the closest post office: http://www.tntpost.nl/voorthuis/klantenservice/tnt Choose "TNT post vestiging" in the pull-down menu and enter zip-code (postcode) What might be important: They keep it for maximal 1 month. Other countries may keep it for 14-90 days, depending on the country. Cheers Dennis

Yes, the sender needs to send it Poste Restante to your nearest post office. You will have to find the address of your nearest post office. It will be kept there for a month.
Of course you wouldn't want to give your address here on a public forum. But if you would like to give the 4 numbers of your post code, I can find the nearest post office for you. Or feel free to email me. Alternately, if a package is rejected by your hosts, then the postman will take the package back and leave a card where you can pick it up.
