Hi, Its me again. I need to have a slight change of my itinerary. Is it possible to see Borubudur( not the sunrise tour )in the morning and Prambanan and the Ramayana ballet in the evening in one day? I understand that we need to walk a lot inBorobudur . Do we need to walk alot too inPrambanan?

Thank you

Hi,

I would recommend to take a taxi to Borobodur from Yogja. You will need about 5-6 hours for Borobudur, then 1 hour back and about 3 mor hours for Prambanan. Do not take the tours, you will be grateful for your independence!
Good Luck!

Neither Borobudur nor Prambanan cover vast areas, compared to other archeological sites. So the scope of walking is more or less your decision, but be sure, you won't realise walking that much due to the great impression of those two monuments.
Wether you will be able to join the Ramayana depends on the performance-days and -hours. To my knowledge it is not performed daily!
Good Luck!

Hi,
I heard it is also possible to rent a bicycle in front of the Borobudur. If you do that, you don't have to walk half an hour from the entrance till you reached Borobudur. It saves time.

Hmm, I don't know why #1 does not recommend the 'organized tours' from Yogya. I did one via my hotel and it was fine. We arrived very early at Borubudor and were given ample time at the site before heading off to another nearby site for a visit, a break for lunch and then a long stop at Prambanan. We arrived back in Yogya in the late afternoon and I did not feel rushed or imposed upon in anyway. I would think that hiring a taxi/driver for the duration of a day's trip would be quite expensive. But I must admit that this trip was a number of years ago so perhaps things have changed and the organized tours offered from various hotels might not be as good as before.

Hi Chan

Yes, this can be done but it is a lot to do in one day. I'd suggest hiring a car with driver (Rp 350,000) and staying near Borobudur (inexpensive nearby hotel www.pondoktingal.com) if possible to eliminate the one hour drive from Yogya to Borobudur. Spend the morning at Borobudur (opens at 6:00AM) and Mendut Temples with a quick visit to the local market and then lunch.

Then a one hour car drive to Prambanan. Tour as many temple complexes as you want, (closes at 17:00) and then have dinner. If attending the Ramanyana at Prambanan (starts 19:30) you'll want to have dinner nearby. If attending the Ramanyana in Yogya (Purawisata Open Air Theatre, 8:00 PM) you'll have about a 30 minute drive into town if traffic.

Hi,
The government rised the price of fuel with almost 30% last month, and most transportation has become more expensive. A car with driver might be 380.000 or 400.00 Rp. now, depending on the distance you need it.

Yes, it is opossible. The convenient way to Borobudur is by taking a TransJogya Bus from one of their HALTE which located at the main streets of Yogyakarta, a new (2008) model of transportation which started running from 06.00 am early in the morning by once payment, so you could take the TransJogja Bus from one HALTE which located at Malioboro streets whith the destination to JOMBOR Bus Station.Tell the officer and the driver that you will to Borobudur via JOMBOR Bus station, so they could show you the number of the Bus and in which points you should take a bus transfer up to reach to your destination (usually the route map of TransJogja Bus are available, ask to the officer).
From Jombor Bus Station ( a final destination of TransJogja Bus) take a NON TransJogja Bus which will deliver you to Borobudur temple, the bus will stop at Borobudur Bus Terminal, from here you could take a becak or a horse cart or an ojek to the entrance gate of Borobudur.
The way to return to Yogya, you could take a bus from Borobudur Bus Station with the destination to JOMBor Bus Station.
From Jombor Bus Station, again you could take a TransJogja Bus from their HALTE and tell the officer and the driver that you would go to Prambanan Bus terminal and they would show and explain you the number of the Bus you take and at where points you should take a bus transfer which would deliver you to your destination. From Prambanan Bus Terminal you could take a becak or a horse cart, or by walking to the entrance gate of Prambanan Temple.
The last TransJogja Bus from Prambanan to Yogyakarta downtown is at about 07.00 pm or 08.00 pm (please check to the officer). Have a nice trip to Yogyakarta.Regards meiyergani
