Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Konstanz currency use around Lake Konstanz
Posted: Sun June 1, 2008 11:40 AM UTC
I shall be visitng the area, staying in Konstanz from Wednesday 4th June. Can
anyone tell me, please, whether I should take Swiss Francs as well as Euros for use whilst touring around the Lake on the Swiss side? Or, as I have experienced on the Swiss/Italian border, are the Euros accepted - mainly for use in cafes and restaurants.
Thanks,
Alan

They will accept Euros in Switzerland, but usually the change they give you will be in Swiss francs.

I have been there a couple of years ago and your euros will be well accepted.
Don't forget to visit Mainau, "Die Blumeninsel im Bodensee", or the beautiful island of flowers. Have a nice trip.

Thanks all - I thought that was the case from my memories of use of Euros in Italian/Swiss border towns. Your prompt replies were much appreciated, I can now go and order my currency.

You lose a bit when paying with Euro in Switzerland but it will not be a fortune. If you only want to pay for meals and drinks and do not go back to Switzerland in the near future I would not bother to get Swiss franks, as always some money will be left over, and changing them back would even be a bigger loss... However, have you considered paying by credit card?

Ref. the other issue:
Apart from Mainau and Meersburg I highly recommend a visit of Lindau which is probably the most spectacular town of the lake, sitting on an island in the lake.
