Aquismón aquismon, mexico - sotano de las golondrinas, tamul falls
Posted: Sun June 1, 2008 12:42 AM UTC
does anyone have any info on visiting this town/site??? i will be in tampico, mexico for a month and i know aquismon, tamul falls and sotano is close to ciudad valles.

i can easily catch a bus to ciudad valles but from there, is there any public transportation to aquismon?? how long? how much?? what about accomodations? i am used to tuk-tuks and collectivos if similar modes of transport are cheap options, and camping or hostel like atmospheres are an option too.

and from aquismon...whats the transport options to sotanos and the tamul falls? again, how much is a reasonable price? i'll have a buddy with me too.

also i can get by with very basic spanish, and i always pass for a local if i don't open my american accented mouth.

thanks in advance.

The sites you want explore are poorly infrastrutured. The regional sites tell us you better may choose a local guide and van/light truck to stroll by. I am sending some links concerned in Ciudad Valles region:

Aquismón Travel to Aquismon

I have been making trips to this area for years. When you reach Cd. Valles bus station go to the Vencedor bus line kiosk inside. Buy a ticket for La Crucero de Aquismon. Buses departing this direction leave about every half hour. Tell the bus driver you are going to La Crucero de Aquismon. He will need to know this for it is only one of many minor stops along the way. The trip will take just under an hour. You will come to La Crucero (crossroad) on the main highway (85) just before the road enters a narrow valley. At La Crucero take a taxi or hitch a ride on the back of a truck. The actual town of Aquismon is yet another 3 or 4 miles off of the main highway. Aquismon has a couple of hotels. You can hire a taxi to take you to the Sotano, the springs at Tambaque and the falls at Tamul. Ask about transportation in the municipal building just west of the plaza. If you start walking the road, these places all take the same northwest road out of town, you can hitch a ride on the back of a truck. Just be sure to pay the driver something. At Tamul you will need to hire a boat to take you up river to the falls. While in the Huasteca consider seeing La Puente de Dios and Las Posas near the town of Xilitla.

whenever I go over there I make a deal with a cab driver to (very reasonably) take me around. They need the biz and know cool secret spots - I have paid like $500 pesos for a 12 hour day of touring and fun - that´s under $50... Glad you are coming here to the Huasteca Potosina!
