Manchester Manchester to Liverpool by train
Posted: Sun June 1, 2008 12:24 AM UTC
Is it advisable to buy the train tickets from Manchester to Liverpool in advance? Or can we wait and buy them at the train station? Travel can only be done on a Sunday (June).

Thanks.

I would just buy the tickets on the day but have a look at http://www.tpexpress.co.uk/tickets/offers.asp.
There are two routes from Manchester to Liverpool - the quickest and with the newest trains is the route from Manchester Picadilly to Liverpool Lime Street.

Thanks very much, Britannia.

I'll check the website you mentioned. Have only looked at National Rail so far.

We're closer to Victoria station than Piccadilly, but I suppose we'll need to train it over to Piccadilly if there's nothing available at Victoria.

I could only find departures with connections nothing direct to Liverpool although the return is direct.

Interesting. I will research further.

Different trains to Liverpool depart from different stations in MCR - Piccadilly and Oxford Road.

Saver return fare is £12 - just walk-up it says. No discount for advance purchase.

If you are near Victoria you can get a tram to Picadilly - the tram stops underneath the main line station.
