Does anyone have experience w/ the buses that serve the Sinai peninsula in Egypt? I will be in Egypt in Oct. 08 and would like to do St. Catherine's, Dahab and Nuweiba before hopping the ferry to Aqaba, Jordan.

I was in Dahab April 2008 and took an overnight bus to Cairo. The bus was only 2/3 full at the time and comfortable. I think their were 3 or 4 busses a day from Dahab to Cairo, so there must be 3 or 4 buses a day in the other direction.

It is quite easy to get around on bus in Sinai. If you need to go from Cairo down to Sinai, there are a few bus companies. East Delta is the cheapest, but I would not recommened this for a long trip as the buses can be quite dirty and unreliable at times. If you do need to do this trip I would use Superjet. It costs 80l.e. from Cairo to Sharm.
From Sharm to Dahab you will have to use East Delta. These buses run every few hrs and cost 11L.e. one way. Just be aware that some of these buses just go from Sharm to Dahab, but others are ones you jump on coming through from Cairo. These buses are always late and you may have a long wait. Just factor it in, as Egypt is truely a country that runs on Africa time! The bus from Dahab to Neweiba leaves at 10am and will take you an hour and half. As for St Katherines, you can easily arrange this trip when in Dahab. Just be aware when you catch the ferry that you need to pay the cost in US dollars. Hope this helps!
