| Buenos Aires | 4 days in BA Posted: Sat May 31, 2008 04:02 PM UTC
hi all,
I am from Malaysia and totally clueless about South America. My friend and I will be in BA for 4 days in end of June. Appreciate if anyone can give us some suggestion to some places that we must see in BA. We ara also planning a day trip to Colonia, Uruguay. 1) What is the easiest way from EZE airport to the city? Which is the cheapest option? 2) Is there any winery tour in BA, since we may not have time to go to Mendoza? 3) ow long is the journey to Cordoba? 4) How much wiill original Che Guevara t-shirts and Argentinian football jersey cost in BA? 5) Best place to buy souvenirs from BA? Thanks so much for your helps & Tips :) |

Hola,
Well, here are a few answers for you: 1. When you exit the airport security area (customs, etc) you will see a booth about 10 meters outside of the glass doors called Manuel Tienda Leon where you can buy tickets to "downtown" BA for about $16 dollars US each. (At one time they also provided a taxi service to hotels in the near-by area, but, later stopped doing this....BUT, may be offering it again, so check.) From their drop-off site you can flag down a taxi to take you to your hotel. 1a. Upon leaving the airport, you will find an ATM machine to withdrawl $pesos if you need it. In the terminal, of course, you will find a few places to change money. I suggest that you get some before leaving the airport...it makes Life a whole lot easier! 2. Not sure about wine tours in BA. There are a LOT of stores around to buy wine, however! 3. A trip to Mendoza (www.plataforma10.com) will take about 13 - 14 hours or so, and cost from $P100 to $P160, depending on the bus you take. The "Cama" or something similar, travel direct and are THE best way to go. "Comun" seems to take forever, but are cheaper. 4. Well, like anywhere else in the world....prices vary depending on the quality. 5. My (and half the people who live in BA) favorite place to wander around is Calle Florida. Everyone in BA knows where is it. It is a walking area, with no cars allowed, and has many street entertainers, etc, shops, places to eat. 6. Tips.....the main bus station is called the Retiro. There you can get a bus to almost anywhere in Argentina. Unfortunately it has some of the best thieves in the world! Be PARTICULARILY careful when you go there! Have a great trip! JAC

Hi,
Just to comment on the bus shuttle from airport into the city, Tienda Leon, will take you first to their drop off area in a big bus, then will take each person to their hotel in a cab included in the price. Cordoba is about 10-12 hours by bus from Buenos Aires. A great place to listen to traditional Argentine music, savor delicious wine and also eat is a place in a neighborhood called Viejo Palermo called "El club del vino". In their basement they have wine museum as well. They have music shows from Thursday-Sunday I believe at 7pm and at 11pm. It's best if you make reservations http://www.frommers.com/destinations/buenosaires/D55870.html. A good place to enjoy a meal is along Puerto Madero (the port area that has recently been gentrified and now is super trendy). An original futbol jersey will cost you around US$50 you can get these at calle Florida. Also, a great shopping area is along Calle Santa Fe. I don't think you will have enough time to visit both Buenos Aires and Cordoba in just a few days. Even if you fly to Cordoba it may just be a bit rushed. Have fun enjoy BA.

Hello!
San Telmo is one of the places you must see in Buenos Aires. Plaza Dorrego is a great place to chill out and since it was close to the Garden House, the hostel I was staying in (only 9 blocks or so), I went there a lot... In the same hostel, they got to fix me tickets to go to Uruguay. Take the day tour, it's a blast: Colonia is a great place to visit, but not to stay for many days. I was picked up from the airport, but you got many choices to come to BA: Manuel Tienda Leon is great and not expensive. To buy souvenirs, T-shirts and jerseys, the girl at the reception desk told me about Florida St. It's kind of crowded, but the puices are quite good and you got a lot of things to see! Hope it helped you. XOXO
