| Stockholm | Stockholm by night Posted: Sat May 31, 2008 03:00 PM UTC
Hi everyone
My daughter (18 years old) and I are visiting Stockholm for 5 days in late July. Is the first time we go there and I have a few questions: 1) Any suggestions for nice jazz clubs or pubs with live? Are there age restrictions for people below 21 years? 2) Is it safe to take the subway at midnight or 1 a.m. in city centre: Norrmalm, Gamla Stan and Sodermalm? Thanks in advance. |

The legal age for pubs and other drinking places is 18 so as long as she brings an official ID showing her photo and birth date, she should be fine. Unfortunately I don't visit any jazz clubs or pubs with live music so I can't help you very much in that area.
In July we don't get much night hours, and there should be people partying or walking home at some of the big streets. I think the subway runs until 1am so I don't think she should worry too much. Of course, there's always the common sense advice that she probably knows by now: no money flashing, be aware of the surroundings, watch your money/valuables, etc.

I don't know if you can make it, but Stockholm Jazz Festival is Jul 16-19 this year: http://www.stockholmjazz.com/.

Hi!
Try Fasching, for live jazz. Schedule on: http://www.fasching.se/ This is a grrreeeat place for jazz, soul and world music. Many big names have played here, as well as newcomers. Age restruction 20 years after 24.00. Check my homepage- tip on the place as well for more info. Closest metro is T-Centralen or Hötorget. At midnight or 1 am there are lots of people travelling and I would consider it safe. Just walk where other people walk. Another classic Jazz-club is Stampen, in Gamla stan, located in a 17´th century cellar, in an old pawn-shop, Converted into a jazz pub in 1968. The space is full of antique items, like instruments hanging from the ceiling. Cosy. http://www.stampen.se/index.htm. Daily live music, two stages, two bars. Closest metro, yes: Gamla stan. I would say the audience here is a little older than Fasching, so maybe you guys should try both? I would. Hope you will have a good time in Stockholm!
