| Davao City | jeepney from airport at 3am? Posted: Sat May 31, 2008 10:25 AM UTC
I will be flying from Hong Kong to Davao by cebupacific and arriving Davao at 3am. Are there still any jeepney plying from airport to downtown? Is it safe to do so? I prefer to take jeepney to downtown becuse it is very cheap. If no, are taxis available? Or is it possible (a good idea?) to stay at airport until the sun rise?

hi, yeah there are taxis lined up at the airport...
its best to take taxi though than to take the jeepneys... because you would have to walk a bit from the airport to the highway.. taxi are not expensive anyways...and you are safe in Davao City for we have one of the best mayors in the world "Mayor Rodrigo Rody Duterte".. have a safe trip to Davao.

if you take a taxi, insist that the driver put down the meter so you avoid haggling. you may add P15 tip to the fare for travel time under 20 minutes, a little more if it exceeds.

Thank you for replying.
Actually I have a bad experience at just outside Davao's Airport last year. I'm looking for a taxi taking us to downtown, but every taxi driver quoted P400-P600. I didn't mind paying a bit more, but it was far out of my expectation. Then I took a maxicab(?) to highway and take a jeepney to downtown, fare was cheap too. So that's why I insist on taking jeepney all the way down to downtown rather than taking a taxi.

May be they (taxi drivers) know I'm a tourist and don't have a picture about the taxi fare, so they quoted me a high price rather than flagged it down.

take the taxi just outside the terminal, at 3am there are many taxies lined up outside. don't haggle, just take one taxi and say directly your destination is. (be sure to let him plug down his meter, if he won't, there are Task Force Davao operatives outside seek some help.). carefully take note the taxi's body number ang the I.D. of the driver which is very visible hanging on his rear view mirror. from airport to downtown it will only cost you around 150.00 aircon. non air is much lesser. if he want's more tell him you got his body number and his name and you will call 911. i'll bet this driver won't bother you any more. TIP: dont't talk to the driver just observe. happy travels! cheers!
