Will be traveling to Tallinn this coming summer and am curious about the country. I am an american and will be traveling alone, possible into Latvia and Lithuania. Will this be safe for me? Also, what can I expect to pay for food and accommodations and what would be the best things to see while I am there?
Thanks for any suggestions |

Tallinn is totally safe and it is easy to move around the Baltic countries. From Tallinn heading South there is a nice town called parnu with a long largely empty and pristine beach. The bus stops here en route to Riga. Riga is a major transport hub and the largest city in the Baltics. You can get to anywhere else in the area from here.
Another trip to consider from Tallinn is to take the ferry to Helsinki for the day or an overnight trip.

You can spend a night in Kuressaare town in Saaremaa island, Estonia's biggest island with beautiful nature. In Kuressaare you can rent a bycicle and head south to Sõrve peninsula, there are beautiful beaches along the coast starting less than 10 km from Kuressaare. There's also an interesting medieval episcopal castle with museum in Kuressaare. Buses to Kuressaare depart at least every 2 hours, but if you're travelling on the most popular times, like friday, you may want to buy your ticket a day ahead - you can do it online here:
http://www.bussireisid.ee/index.html?MENU=&KEEL=en or in Tallinn Central Bus Terminal. From Kuressaare you can take a bus to Pärnu and then catch a bus to Riga. About prices - expect to pay the same as in most of the EU countries. Fuel prices have gone up like anywhere else and all the other prices with it.

I am also American with both US and Irish Passports. I noticed you don't give your gender or what State you are from. But be advised I traveled Lithuania and Latvia alone for 6 weeks in 2007 and 3 weeks in 2008. I had absolutely no problems except having to hunt a bit some times for an English speaker to get info. But I never got "stuck" because of that. I don't know about Estonia, but I was told it was more expensive there. Latvia is slightly more than Lithuania. Restaurant prices are really cheap in Lithuania, and public transport is cheap in both countries. Except for Riga where lodging was expensive, most places are much less than in USA. I am over 70 and did not frequent bars or strip clubs so I did not see any problems. By in large, the people were very friendly and helpful. They like the America traveler, but I would suggest you not display any "BUSH-CHENEY 2004" stickers on your luggage.

Yeah, well, occasionally we might even tolerate Republicans, but don't put too much hope on it! :)

Well, my boss is from California, maybe I should ask him tomorrow, which way of cooking he would prefer? :)

Hello!
In my opinion, it is absolutely safe to travel through Est, Lat, and Lit. For things to see, I can recommend a quite good website http://all-about-estonia.com that gives pretty much all the information needed.
