Hi there
Train station at Warnemunde is very close to where the ship docks. Journey from Warnemunde to Rostock, as I remember, takes approx. 1 hour - maybe a bit less. Fare, again, as I remember as it was a few years ago, was about 2 Euros each way per adult, so quite cheap. You are right to go to Rostock, as I couldn't see anything much to do in Warnemunde, apart from a quick stroll around town and along the seafront - I don't know why the cruise ships stop here personally, but others aboard our ship seemed to like the place, so maybe it's just me!

It actually takes only 20 minutes by local train to the main station in Rostock. As the main station is not right in the city centre you might need to switch to the tram or bus there or get out at an earlier stop (Holbeinplatz). Ticket is indeed something in the range of 2 Euro. Warnemunde is quite boring, not much to see and do (you could spend a day on the wide and sandy beach or rent a bike and explore the shore). Rostock is not much better, but for a day it should be interesting enough. Don't know how much time you've got, but if you don't mind a 1 1/2 hour train trip you could go to the Hanse cities of Stralsund or Wismar from Warnemunde. Both are really nice.

Single ticket is EUR 1,70. Mini group (2-5 persons) day ticket is EUR 12,90.
These tickets cover local trains, S-Bahn, trams and buses. http://www.verkehrsverbund-warnow.com/ (public transport in Warnemünde/Rostock in English). Rostock http://www.historicgermany.com/rostock.html also close Bad Doberan & Heiligendamm http://www.bad-doberan.de/index-eng.html

Hi there
Sorry to misinform about the time from Warnemunde to Rostock - I looked on the web for that one, as my memory was a bit hazy - the web poster got it a bit wrong!
