Just came back last week. Yemen is safe to travel, as long as you can get the travel permit from the tourist police. They know where you should go and where not. I think it is difficult to find a companion on the net to match your timing cos there are, but not many independent travellers. I did the same, but end up on my own. Good luck and enjoy Yemen.
