| Nigeria | What to do in Nigeria? Posted: Thu May 29, 2008 04:37 PM UTC
Hi
Any advice on what to do in Nigeria, I will be travelling solo for several weeks (3-4weeks). Are there any national parks, if so are they easy to reach and what about accommodation. Is there anything to do in the cities or not? Thanks Sean |

Hi. First question is why do you want to visit Nigeria? If you are keen to see wildlife etc then there are better options. If you want a beach experience there are beter options. Tourism is not big in Nigeria. Infrastructure is strained. Internal flights are mostly regular but not always dependable. Traveling inside the large cities should be by taxi or rental car with driver - very few expats living in Lagos drive themselves during the workweek, the trafic is simply to chaotic. Nigeria is relatively safe (avoid the east though, Port Harcourt area) and Nigerians are friendly. There are a few national parks and there are some places on the border with Cameroon where you can track gorilas etc. Accomodation options are either cheap and basic or very expensive and slightly less basic. Nigeria has identified tourism as a priority and their web site has some info which is not always 100% accurate. See http://www.nigeriatourism.net/ One place I have not been to but which friends have highly recomended is Obudu Cattle Ranch.
