| Fethiye | How much does a meal cost and currency exchange. Posted: Thu May 29, 2008 04:31 PM UTC
We are staying at the Mavi Belce in June. Could anyone advise me of the cost of a beer, a meal with wine etc etc. We are going for 11 nights and are medium drinkers and staying B&B. Will probably take in a gulet or 2 and possibly a car to go up to kas.
Also - is it better to take uk currency and exchange out there? Thanks |

It depends where you stay. In hotel it is more expencive then in a town restourant. The prices differ in various town restourants also. If you sit at a luxus touristic restaourant at seaside it it expenciver then a restourant not at sea side. Every Turkish town has a "Belediye Bahcesi"(Public Garden of Municipality) or "Belelediye Cay bahcesi"(Public Tea garden of Municipality) At those gardens the prices are good for Turkish families. The tourist dont know that. You can drink your beer or tea(Cay= spell:Chei)
At entrence of every restourant there is a price table. You can check the best price. In the 1st day you will spend more then the comening 10 days. You will learn how to live like a poor Turk. Wine is expencive in Turkey. The ruling fundamentalist party put high taxes on alchol. You can find differenct sorts of international or local wine at shopping malls. I advice you to drink Turkish beer "Efes" although there are many differnt international or local sorts. You will like Efes and a friend of Efes. On the other hand dont drink too much Turkish national drink the "Raki" It is hard. You may be sick. We call Raki "lion's milk" because it is hard. I advice you also to drive to Demre (Kale) to the chuch and home of Santa Claus. It is not very far from Kas. (spell:Kash) Drive to Antalya and the town of "Side" to the famous roman Amphitheather Have a nice time. There are many things to see in Turkey. Dont stay at the table drinking wine and beer. Turkey offers you 1001 Adventures.

Basic info maybe, but may also help, here:
http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/a4c2f/1c0a38/1/ Take UK currency with you, better rates in Turkey than exchanging it at your place. Credit / Debit cards though are safe and ATMs are everywhere. And like SirVictor said, wines are a bit on the expensive side, even local wines. It makes up for most of the dining bill. Have fun!
