Carcassonne Travel Forum

Hi, we're spending a week in carcassonne in August and then need to travel down to Spain for the second week. We're thinking of going by train, but I feel like I'm going round in circles trying to understand all the train websites. Can we go from perpignon train station to girona train station, and do you have any idea how long it takes?

I sympathise with you, the SNCF site is not user-friendly, small font, etc.

Perpignan-Girona takes from 1H42 (no change) to 3H33 (1 change), 5 trains a day, first one leaves Perpignan Station (centre of the world according to Dali) at 8H57, arrives Girona 10H40, take that one if you can, the other options aren't as good

I shall be travelling that route next week.

There are two direct trains every day from Perpignan to Girona leaving at 0856 and 1831, taking just under 3 hours for the journey. Reservations are required.

Only a couple of the local French TER trains cross the border into Port Bou, Spain and needless to say these do not connect with the local Spanish trains from there to Barcelona and I can tell you from experience that a 1 hr 45 minute wait in Port Bou is not going to be one of life's more fulfilling experiences unless you like watching trains.

The local trains are cheaper than the direct trains.

Sorry made a mistake in previous post - journey time to Girona is about 2 hours; it's 3 to Barcelona where I am going.
