| Munich | How to get to the central station? Posted: Wed May 28, 2008 02:07 PM UTC
Hi!
We are flying to Munich next week and than directly are going to Salzburg by train. We need to know if it is possible to take some kind of subway or other public transport fron Munich airport to Munich Central trainstation? And if it is possible to go by train/subway, can we buy tickets which will be valid for the trip to Salzburg there (I heard about so called Bavarian tickets)? Thank you in advance for information! /Melissa |

There is convenient rail service from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station). See http://www.munich-airport.de/en/consumer/anab/bahn/index.jsp
which is the official website for the airport. I will leave it to others who know more about the Bavarian pass (which has limits that may affect you, although it is a big savings) to explain the ins and outs of that... Bill

No need to go right into the city centre, at the Airport catch the s-bahn S8 direction Buchenau as far as Muenchen Ost then change to a Regional train to Salzburg. The Bayernkarte can be used as long as you use regional trains and not the IC or EC trains. I,m fairly sure that the Bayernkarte covers the s-bahn too so no need to buy separate tickets, and it covers more than 1 person, on the ticket machine it shows to select single or partner ticket. It will cost about E28.

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en From: MUC To: Salzburg and select as means of transport "only local transport" if you want to use the Bavaria Ticket. Bavaria Ticket is EUR 27,00 for 2-5 persons traveling together and covers the whole route. You can buy it from ticket machines at the airport. Best is to change at Munich Ostbahnhof (east station), i.e. not to proceed till Hauptbahnhof (main railway station).
