Penang Pasar Malam [night markets]
Posted: Wed May 28, 2008 03:41 AM UTC
Hi VTers,

I chanced upon a write up about night markets - http://www.tourismpenang.gov.my/page.cfm?name=se02f

"Some of the areas where night markets operate, from 6pm until about 10pm:

Sunday: Sungai Nibong pesta site carpark, Jalan Tengah, Bayan Baru
Monday: Jalan Relau, near Relau Agri station
Tuesday: Tanjung Bungah Integrated Market
Wednesday: Medan Angsana field, Bandar Baru Ayer Itam
Thursday: Lengkok Mahsuri, Bayan Baru
Friday: Lebuh Nipah, Lip Sin Garden
Saturday: Near SJK Wen Khai, Batu Maung, Jalan Sungai Dua"

Is this information still valid or outdated?

I am hoping to confirm if the Campbell Market night market is still operating and if so, it will be great to know further information, ie the operating hours, type of goods available, the highlight at the night markets, etc. :)

Also, would the Penang Road chendol stall be opened during the pasar malam?

Is this night market like Batu Ferringhi night market, KL Petaling Street night market or more like the small scale Bangsar night market?

Many thanks in advance for your contributions.

:) Karan

Hi

I think the info for night market is outdated, as far as I know Friday is now in Jelutong and Saturday in Sungai Ara (Near to Tesco Extra). Sorry if there is actually two night market team. The Campbell Night Market is no longer available due to poor response. Penang Road chendol only available from around 11am until 3-4pm only, they don't sell at night. Batu Ferringhi night market is available everynight at that area. This night market is not like Petaling Street market, they are more concentrate is selling goods then eating.

Hope this help.

Penang Sungai Ara night market - type of goods available?

Thanks Fern, for your reply. :)

What sort of goods are being sold at the Sungai Ara night market? Would it be like what Campbell Market is like in the day?

Is there a night market near Kek Lok Si?

We will have 2 nights in Penang and I'm hoping to bring our group to Batu Ferringhi night market on 1 night and another night market on the 2nd night if it's recommended. :)

Hi

The night market in Sungai Ara sells a lot of stuff, eating, clothes, shoes, stationeries, I suppose anything for head to toes can be found there. I don't think there is a night market in Kek Lok Si except those stall along the walkway up to Kek Lok Si but bear in mind of the price (Tourist area).

Campbell street have a lots of gold shop and travelling bags, backpack shop around that area, other than that nothing much.

I think you should go to the Sungai Ara night market and the Batu Ferringhi night market, one is for shopping and the later is for souvenirs.

Regards
