I'm due to arrive in SaMo on July 7th. I've been watching the weather on "weather.com" and notice it's only reaches the hight 60's for the high from now until June 5th. Has it really been that cool? I will have a 9 yr old boy w/me and would like to spend a few days at the beach, otherwise the kid may get kinda bored. Have people been on the beach? Does it maybe feel warmer than the high 60's?

I wouldn't worry about it, it'll definitely warm up by then. Its been cool out here lately and there were still lots of beachgoers over memorial day weekend. You'll miss the 4th of July weekend crowd, which will be nice, unless you'd like to people watch, which can also be nice in LA. Not just beauty and bods but weird and funny freaks as well! Especially in Venice beach. You'll see what I mean.
I would imagine you coming from Philly should feel warm in Santa Monica even its cool there. Water could be a bit chilly but when its hot, as it often is out here, it feels good. Check out the pier, 3rd st. promenade, boardwalk at Venice beach, lots of things close by. Have fun.

Sunny Southern California! You will be seeing the sunshine on Sat. the 7th of June. Temp. high will be 75 F in Santa Monica with a low of 61 F. The real feel high will be around 78 F. That is warm for Santa Monica. Our lows do tend to feel cooler after a day of sunshine. Water temps are not tropical, so they will be cool, always have been. But, it still feels good. Yes, the beaches do seem to get a bit crowded on weekends but we have very wide sand beaches with lots of room. You should have plenty of time in the sun with your son. BTW, if you go a few miles south, to Marina Del Rey, there is a great beach, no waves, that children love and you can see the many boats at the Marina, as well.

You just never know what the temperature will be. Yes, it was quite cool this weekend but last weekend was triple digits! It is supposed to warm up by the end of the week and no doubt, probably warmer by the time of your visit. There is a ton of things to do in LA so it's hard to get bored here (even for kids)!
