| Vienna | Wifi in Vienna Posted: Tue May 27, 2008 08:32 PM UTC
How easy is it to get a connection in Vienna? Is it worth carrying a laptop around? Are there any or a lot of free hot spots and if so where? Downtown area that is.
Thanks Ja |

all macdonalds used to have it free of charge some years ago, it should be still the same.
Cafe Landtmann, opposite of Burgtheater and Rathaus has it as well and is a sight by itself as a typical "Kaffeehaus" There are many more of them in Vienna !

Hi,
you're lucky as Vienna has many WiFi points. The following webpage shows you all FREE WiFi spots in Vienna. The provider name is Freewave, I used it many taimes. Connections are fast & reliable. Just make sure that your laptop battery is fully charged as it might be difficult to find a power socket in some cafes & restaurants.... http://www.freewave.at/en/hotspots Enjoy Vienna, Cheers lobopequeno

Yes it is reasonably easy to get a connection, even for free, but as mentioned above, make sure your laptop is charged as finding outlets can be tricky.
On the blog I posted a link to above, http://www.helge.at/wlan/, you'll find a list of even great cafes with free connection. Some of them use Freewave, others have their own network. As long as your laptop isn't too heavy, it is certainly worth carrying it with you - you can spend hours in various cafes, including the traditional ones.
