Wifi in Munich

How easy is it to get a connection in Munich? Is it worth carrying a laptop around? Are there any or a lot of free hot spots and if so where? Downtown area that is.

There are a lot of hot spots in cafes and bars.

I'm very often in Munich, I stopped using my GSM/UMTS card because it is too expensive.
There are many internet cafes that allow Wifi/WLAN access.
The San Francisco Coffee Company is the cheapest, I always purchase 1 hour for 3 Euros and enjoy their great coffe. Starbucks is a lot more expensive, you have to use T-Mobile

I don't know if you get internet service in the hotel rooms, but you can connect in the restaurant-lounge area. Unless things have changed, I was able to connect this past March while in Munich.
