| Las Vegas | DO I NEED A RENTAL CAR?? Posted: Tue May 27, 2008 08:27 PM UTC
Hi there,
I am turning 30 next month, so I decided to take my aunt who is visiting from Germany to Vegas and also visiting the Grand Canyon.. we are staying at the Red Rock Casino Resort and Spa. Should I rent a car?? Last time I was there I was 14 and I remember driving through Vegas was just terrible.. but we want to see a lot, and dont want to go there just to gamble... is parking readily available? I would love to hear what you guys have to say.. thanks, Jessica |

If you want to see more than the casinos in Las Vegas a car is by far the best means of transportation. You can stop wherever you want, stay as long as you want, make some little detours... This whole region is so fantastic, you will not regret to do the driving yourself.

If you like driving you should reserve one or two days (perhaps first and the last one) just for walking up and down the strip to see all the casinos.
For the rest of your stay you could rent a car and take a day trips. Grand Canyon Zion Park in Utah (fantastic) Hoover Dam Oatman (the gold mining town fun to go to) Sedona ( little further drive but doable) Those are only few places to visit good for a day trips. I don't have any tips from those places as I visited them while ago, but you can see the pictures on my site. Vegas itself is not that bad to drive as long as you will not get on the main street, but even so, you just move in slow traffic and have time to look around ;-)

I'd definetly recommend a car from that resort. Driving in Vegas isn't bad at all. Take the streets taxi drivers use, Paradise Road is what I use. It's one block from the strip and runs parallel and hardly ever has traffic.

Take her to see Le Reve @ the Wynn. Front row seats cost only $99 and there is not a single bad seat in the theatre. Reserve ahead!

Red Rock is in Summerland and is about 30 minutes from the Strip. You will need a car if you want to see anything. Good news is Red Rock is one of the newest casinos in LV and is really a great place. Don't miss having dinner at the Salt Lick inside the casino. It has really good food.

Rent a car, you DO NOT want to take a taxi from Red Rock to the strip. We didn't know this, and took a taxi from the Excalibur to the Red Rock and it costs us $40.00. then when we wanted to come back it took us 2 hours to get a taxi, they don't go out there very often, so the hotel had to call one for us, and it was $40.00 back, I was not a happy camper about this, as we had our car at the Paris hotel, but thought it would be a quick trip to Red Rock. So yes, rent a car, traffic is not bad, I do it all the time.
