Yogyakarta My Java itinery, Is this possible?
Posted: Tue May 27, 2008 04:54 PM UTC
Hi, Its me again. Here i list out my full Java itinery. Would appreciate if I can get recommendation, advice and suggestions.

I have decided to skip Solo as advised by Pamela.

June 1 to June 7:

Day 1: Arrive at Jakarta at night.
.
Day 2: Morning to Bandung town. Whole day visit Tangkuban Perahu,Jln Ciamplas, Jln Cibaduyut, China emporium . Back to Jakarta by night

Day 3: Morning train to Jogja. Afternoon and evening check in Manahara hotel and visit Boro Park and surrounding.

Day4: Sunrise Boro tour after that visit the surrounding villages and Mendut temple.
Then check in Malioboro street in afternoon. Viist the surrounding areas.

Day 5. Morning to Merapi volcano and Kaliadem. Afternoon to Prambanan, evening watch the Ramayana Ballet. Night back to Malioboro.

Day 6: morning train to Jakarta. Stay in Jaksa rd. Visit the surrounding areas.

Day 7:Morning visit market place, mini Indonesia, Flea market, pet market
Afternoon to airport , flight back to Malaysia

NOTE: in between places if I have time, I'll visit some schools or music schools, bookshop etc

Some questions:
1.Is this too tight?
2.IS it better to take night trainto save time? But I will miss the beautiful scenery of morning train.
3. What time is the departure and arriving time of the morning train fr Jogja to Jakarta.

Thank you

Hi Chan,

Your itinerary makes me tired just reading it! Of course, I'm older and haven't such energy any more.

However, if you think this isn't all too much for you I'd say it should be pretty easy. It is possible to do so much in one day in Indonesia.

My reply is about your question of night or morning train. Indonesia is small so these trips would most likely not take all night as many trips in Europe would. I'd still suggest the night trains for one reason.

When you arrive at your destinations. you will have to check into your hotels and this can take up more time than you would want when you have a full day ahead of you.

As for the scenery, it's much like Malaysia, I think.

Wow, you must have a lot of energy! When I was in Java, I could not walk far without talking to the Indonesian people. I like to have time for that. Besides that, it is so nice that they are never stressed or in a hurry.
Day 1, 4, 5 and 6 is maybe possible: from Yogyakarta to Kaliurang at the Merapi is about 1 hour by car. But I don't know how long it is to go higher on the Merapi as well (by car or by foot?).
In Jakarta it took me 3 1/2 hours to go from the airport to the hotel (in Kota, north part, not so far from the airport). And back to the hotel it took 2 1/2 hours by taxi. Without traffic jam it should be half an hour! I don't know how it is when you travel by bus or so.
Don't get sad if it doesn't work out the way you planned. Just go by the flow.
Selma
